Places of Safety: How Attachment Shapes Our Parenting

Our earliest relational experiences shape how we connect, communicate, and care — both personally and professionally. In this CPD session, Alix Hearn explores how patterns formed in infancy and childhood continue to influence our relationships, our parenting, and the therapeutic encounters we hold with young people and families.

Drawing on attachment theory, neuroscience, child development, and systemic thinking, Hearn offers a compassionate, clinically grounded framework for understanding the roots of behaviour and relational dynamics. She challenges narrow behavioural‑medical models and highlights the wider influences that shape a child’s emotional world, including pre‑birth factors, epigenetics, and early loss.

This session supports practitioners to deepen their reflective capacity, broaden their systemic lens, and strengthen their therapeutic attunement. It is ideal for child and adolescent psychotherapists, counsellors, mental health professionals, trainees, and anyone working closely with children, young people, and families.

Alix Hearn

Alix is an integrative child and adolescent psychotherapist, ecopsychotherapist, and clinical supervisor with fourteen years’ experience of specialist working with children, young people, and families. She has worked within schools, specialist trauma and adoption teams, child and adolescent mental health services, residential children’s homes, and private practice.
